A crane rental might be something you need if you have a temporary project involving great heights or a lot of weight. After you find the right crane to rent from a supplier, here are some important things to inspect.

Tires 

If your crane has a portable design and relies on tires, you must inspect them carefully before getting inside the crane and using it around a worksite. Luckily, tire inspections aren't that difficult to carry out. 

Just ensure you give each tire your undivided attention, checking for structural damage and severe wear. Every tire also needs to have enough tread so that you remain in control of the crane wherever you decide to move it around your worksite. 

Grab Rails

Regardless of what crane you rent out, there should be some rails to grab onto, making it easier to get in and out of the crane. Take your time to inspect these rails before putting your total weight on them. 

Keep a lookout for things like rust and bent portions. Ultimately, the rails must be in perfect shape to keep you secure as you get in and out of the rental crane. 

Lights

If you plan to use a rental crane at night or in low-light conditions, such as fog, then it's paramount to have a crane with working lights. They'll give the operator ample clarity as they navigate the rental crane around your worksite. Working lights also make the rental crane more visible to workers nearby.

It won't take you long at all to test all of the lights on your rental crane. If you find an unresponsive light or lights that aren't bright enough, have the rental supplier make the necessary adjustments before you start using the crane. 

Hoist

The hoist is one of the most essential parts of any rental crane because it's what you'll use to move loads and lift them to great heights. Take as long as you need to make sure every aspect of the hoist is in perfect condition.

Make sure there aren't any signs of corrosion and damaged hoist parts. If you don't see any red flags, you can test the hoist after successfully rigging it to verify there aren't any movement issues you should worry about. 

Rental cranes allow you to complete some heavy-duty work without breaking the bank. As long as you inspect the right things before using one, you'll have a stress-free rental experience.
